  • Engine Rebuild Costs ?

How much would you expect to pay for an 2.1 engine rebuild ?

Including piston, crank, bearings, cam, rebore block, lead free conversion etc. etc. etc.

Just got the quote in for the rebuild of DDA's engine and wondered if it sounded in the correct ball park.

This will be the last time I get an engine stripped for inspection as what I have budgeted a few hundred pounds for is turning into a few thousand its also amazing what you find when you strip an engine DDA was down as converted to 2.2 Grp1 hmmm I beg to differ, however she will now be a proper 2.1 Grp1 when Im finished

It really depends on the quality of the components, but you should be looking at aprx £1800 - £2000 for a good quality bottom end and head.

I would stress it is worth spending the extra during the build to have all components balanced correctly (including the flywheel ) as although it appears costly it will be effective in the long term. Also i recommend paying the extra for a good set of rod bolts and flywheel bolts such as ARP, and if looking for high revs/power gains double dowel the flywheel to the crank.
Rallyslag, for your info the two main aftermarket pistons used for the 2.1 conversion are 93mm (2090cc) and 94mm which gives 2135cc, however this is not recommended on a standard block (use the 205).
As for cam profiles, that is personal choice and driving conditions (dont want to open the large can of worms !!!)
      Cheers
