  • Ford Rallye Sport (RS) dealer network 1970's..

    Hi

Does anyone know if a list of the Ford RS dealer network in 1970's or 1980’s exists?

I’m looking for a dealer details in the North West London NW9 area for making up a rear window sticker.

    Many thanks…

          Interesting (early) article.
"AVO should offer better availability of performance parts and reduce prices". Did it? Better availability cannot be proven because from then on there was for some time no alternative for comparison - until prices crashed, with lots of independent specialist motorsport retailers bringing in Bilsteins etc. themselves and showing up Ford's prices for what they really were. Price? That's "'aving a larf", init? Ford sold comp bits for profit. BMC and Rootes/Chrysler sold them to help private entrants, partly funded from their competition budgets.
TCs were still made at "Hailwood" were they? Spelling clearly not a major Ford internal skill...

How many of those RS dealers survived and without being re-named? Most had one key man (often a race or rally competitor) that "made" them. Too often every other director/employee knew little about RS matters. Can we fit those names to dealers?

Stafford, Lloyds Garage LTD. Would have been Ron Aiken, now has is own haulage company, but still competes on a regular basis, in either his Mk1, Mk2 or 6R4.

              Pca

Peter Clarke Auto,s were not on that list, and they were a RS dealer,so much so that they ran a satellite rally Team for Ford, running Kyosti Hamilaenen,Jean-Pierre Nicolas,Bjorn Waldegard, and Henri Toivonen ,and Ian Hughes, and on the British National Championship ran the Total team with Malcolm Wilson, and Thomas Motors of Blackpool

                This is circa 1980.
List from an RS Parts catalogue picked up from F. English branch near the Poole/Bournemouth "city line" early 81.
Pre-RS days main figure at F.English was Col. Ronnie Hoare, better known for Ferrari importer Maranello Concessionaires. Apparently he had a massive model railway layout at the Poole branch.
Long distance record specialist Eric Jackson has changed from being Service Garage Barnsley to multi-venue Polar Motor Company by this time.
My main "trade discount" supplier was Currie Motors (Sunbury, not the main RS dealer at Kingston) after Grays of Guildford flatly refused to offer even trade 10% on parts to build a car for the RAC...
VMW was racer Vince Woodman of "RS1300" fame and actually supplied my road RS2, via Kingsmead of Bath.
                Can't see PCA.

Probably Bristol Street Motors of Cheltenham. That's where I bought mine in '78

If I remember correctly they didn't get the rs dealership until the late 80s, when I worked there.

If you are talking about Bristol Street Motors Cheltenham they were definitely RS dealers in 1978.

worth mentioning that not all rs's were sold new from rs dealers... some normal ford dealerships ordered cars via rs dealers and even did deals to get them... also some dealerships that were part of a group might not have been an rs centre but could still get cars from the rs centres in the group. There was an rs2k bought new in 74 from the perrys in my town, even though it was not an rs centre.
