I know exactly how you feel mate.
We had to have our border terrier put to sleep last week, he was nearly 15.
It's never easy, but our other dog still keeps looking for him bless her.

lost my rottie 15 years ago and i still think about him. he was 10 at the time, and lost the use of his back end, and as said already that morning i took him to the vets was heartbreaking..
i feel for your loss mate, as only a pet owner and dog lover can..
the pain eases and you will always have those memories.
Live to regret ..or regret to live.

        thanks everyone.

It was great to your stories. Some great photos as well.

cheers Taffr for the big photo....the man himself would be pretty happy with that...even with the spider web on his face.

know exactly how you feel at this time mate :-(
if he was in pain its for the best pal
lost my bulldog last year :-( cancer she was 5 years old

was totally gutted me, the wife and my 10 year old lad
rang the breeder we got her from to break the news and she was in hospital having heart sugery so her husband asked us do we want another(she needed re-homing asap) so i took the 8 hour (return) drive and we got ella

a massive loss for us to lose our baby but ella (the new) she brightens up our days
          thoughts are with you pal

Not so good to hear that mate. Got 3 dogs myself and I had to put my german shepherd down some years back due to rear hip failure.
