Escorts were always the working mans car and sporting versions for the slightly better off chap, but now it's gone mad, hence why I'm personally thinking of giving up on my cars.
It's just not fun anymore, might go to e-types, would be cheaper.

On the plus side, the cars have gone up enough that you can sell an Escort and buy something for the same money but with no roof and a V8 engine...that's my plan anyway. I was even tempted to break mine for spares rather than do the work on it to get it back on the road. If it wasn't for the fact that it's a 'family car' and my parents might never speak to me again if I did that.

Same problem here, my Mex was my late dad's, but the cost to re-build is a joke.
Funny how every mainstream part, ie switchs, door handles etc are all of a sudden RS parts!!

Totally agree , exactly why my next car won't have a ford badge

The trouble is that until muppets stop buying these basic non RS parts when they're advertised at stupid prices, then the greedy sellers are going to carry on pushing their prices up. There must be enough mueseum piece cars around now not to need even more concourse garage queen examples surely? I'd rather that the ones left can be driven, so searching out NOS trim shouldn't be strictly necessary if you can find a used grille (or whatever).

It's laughable that door handles could be labelled up as an 'RS' part. Lets face it a good chunk of a Mk1 or Mk2 RS is made using standard parts, but for the unique RS parts I can understand them being more prized, hence why mislabelling parts as being for an RS (which technically it is I suppose, but also the same as a non RS in your example) helps the seller's profit.

Still, better not annoy too many on here as hopefully someone will want to buy my overpriced Mk2 when I come to sell it.

If you think new old stock Ford bits are dear then spare a thought for the new performance car owners out there !!!!
It's £18,000 for a new skyline gearbox and you can can break one every week , £3000 for a front wing for a Clio v6 and £1500 for a battery in a GT3RS Porsche !!!! Even a shitty taxi shaped Audi has £80 spark plugs these days .
A full race pinto costs less than a 40,000 mile service on an M5 !!!!

the more parts and panels that get re-made will gradually bring down the mad prices.the recession looks like it has not hit these parts though
