      A propper 4x4, i.e a land rover...

We went camping in Dorset last year, and the field behind us was hired out to a caravan club, well it got very very boggy, and noone could get their vehicles & caravans out at the end of the weekend.

In the end 2 V8 land rovers had to tow everyone out, including a few 4x4 namely X5's, X-trails and a Toureg..

How we laughed at the expensive X5's that couldn't do what they said on the tin....

cool, my missus want to sell her ST220 and get another disco, so we are looking for a V8 on LPG. Any think to look out for? I read the ACE pipes can rot and are a pain as is the ACE system/airbags.

Would like a nice Series 2 ES, seems to be a few for sale on the bay, so just gotta clean and MOT the ST220 LPG and get it sold.

My brother has a s2 es but td5.. Had mo bother with ace pipes but has had to replace rear air bags, on suspension, has it had been stood a while with them deflated and the rubber had cracked.. Other than that it's a top motor . Just use ur head when looking at em and make sure the LPG system is a qaulity system.. Have a good look underneath round boot floor as early ones can be a bit crusty.. Discos do get slated but on all honesty my brother and I have had em for years and they have never let us down , like I said mines getting on for 230000 mile and runs like a good un.. It will be replaced with another one when the time comes..

Love my x5, was faster on the 0- 60 at croft than nearly all the focus st's, stunned a few people around the track at croft, sounds stunning, comfortable, tows my car to trackdays, i can sleep in it with the seats folded, was one of only 5 cars that got onto my estate in the snow, costs the same to run as a car that averages 30mpg on lpg. Put some off road tyres on it and im sure it would be an above average off roader, but hey thats not what i bought it for. And as the new tailgaters , drug dealers, ten bob millionaires car of choice is a Range rover sport they are cheap second hand , you can keep your land/range rovers with there plastic fragile interiors , mines 03 and is still like new !

                    Agree totally with Si

It's the tyres that cause the issues, mine has 315/35 x 20 tyres that are useless on muddy grass but perfect for what I do. If I wanted to be off road a lot I'd put tyres to suit the conditions on the car.
                    Cheers

Totally agree with you too Si, my X5 is an 02 reg and the only reason i've still got it is because other than a new X5 there is no car to better it
