Weren't the DAC registered cars the ones to have as they are ex-Talbot press cars or something? That looks a nice car you have there, can an oil fire kick off like that though?

Maybe it was the spotlight wiring, Frosty knows what he's doing, not wiring his up

Mind you, if it was an oil fire that would be the worst thing to do, i.e. spray water at it

I believe the DAC cars were the last batch off the production line which were all sold through the same dealership 'Arbury service station' Nr Nuneaton in early '83.
I once owned DAC 6Y which was Moonstone & Black - great cars, would love another one, especially an Avon, the Avon on this thread DDU 66Y looks like a fine example.

Horrible thing to have happen. Owner must be sick to the back teeth. One of my favourite cars.

Ahh, not true Kevin... DAC 1Y was originally registered to a Talbot Samba until the late 90s when the Lotus Sunbeam OC Chairman bought it and put the number on his Sunbeam... So there you go!

steve i did hear that rumour, but didnt know for sure but i have done a little research and it makes interesting reading so here you go.leon gibbs was the owner of arbury service station which was not an appointed dealer but had a reputation of if there was a good deal going he would be interested.in 1980-81 talbot approached him and he was offered 150 sunbeam lotus cars(which was left over for homoligation) for@ 5k a car saving of £1250 .the deal was done but he didnt have the room to store all these cars at home so batches of 50 cars were dispatched as they sold.mr gibbs sold 105 lotus sunbeams all moonstone blue with either black or silver decals your choice.these were all DAC registered but not concetive numbers, other talbot models wore the DAC reg.
The 45 he had left over were all sold to Ladbrooks avon coachworks of cannock who put their stamp on the car each car had the build number painted in the coachline.here born the avon lotus sunbeam.these avons did not wear the DAC reg from new. if anyone saw the 800 mile DAC at the nec couple of yeas ago that to this day still belongs to Mr Gibbs.
an interesting story that i thought might be of interest
