Well, ****ed about with the damn thing all morning since 6!!!!!!!!!! have checked and replaced absolutely everything I can think of, Still misses under load. So, Car is not going to Cumbria which I am really dissapointed about to say the least. My poor wife has had to endure lonely evenings for the past 3 months so that the car could have been ready for this event and is (Understandingly) Not happy. I have now lost all enthusiasm for the car but still want to get to Leicester Day next Sunday. The only other thing I can think of is the block's knackered somehow??? Had a leak-back test done whilst being "Set-up" and all showed spot on. Did, however do a compression test this morning and was getting between 115-125 on all 4 cylinders. (I think this is well down as if I can remember rightly they should be about 175?? (Was a little suspect of the guage though) Not too sure whether to go up tonight or just leave it till the morning. WE'LL SEE.

Compression pressures
Compression pressures sound about right for a 2 litre engine with a fast road cam - you lose some compression due to the larger amount of valve overlap. Might be worth checking valve clearances and valve timing yet again, but tight clearances usually give low rpm flat spotting and a lumpy tickover.
Rolling road session would definately identify if it's ignition HT breaking down under load - which it sounds like to me, or if the CO (mixture) is leaning right off. Have you got access to a CO meter - could bring mine along to Stanford Hall next Sunday with my timing lamp.
Might be able to pinpoint something.

Thank you very much. Using a Beetle Non-Ballasted 12v coil which is the same as the RS one. Have changed all the ignition twice. Swapping between the Aldon and points. Have double checked valve clearances twice and also Cam timing right down to putting the old standard pulley on to check marks. Everything is ok. Never had any problems with a Pinto before and have built loads of them. This one however, is DOING MY HEAD IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Might book myself a rolling road session at Basford Dynatune in the week at yet more expence.
