  • Can I drive my RS yet.

Hello, I have just taxed my RS on line after being sorned for the winter. Now obviously I haven't got a tax disc to display. Am I legal to use on the road before the disc arrives? I know technically a disc should be displayed at all times but the DVLA site would not let me tax it in advance.

    Thanks

You get fined for not displaying a valid disc, if your vehicle was taxed and you just renewed it they do let you drive as long as you produce the confimation print out.
Your disc should be with you in a day or two.

If it were me, I would just wait.
Should of done it the old way and queued up at the Post Office

I have purchased my tax online for the last few years and carried on driving as the duty has been paid- but obviously have to wait for the disc to arrive to be able to display it. Nothing wrong with that is there?

Above is correct.. You can drive upto 5 days with an out ov date disc but only of it is just expired.. That is what it says on the dvla site .. only takes a few days to arrive..I'm as keen as you to get out in mine, but waiting for disc to arrive.

          The Law Speaks...

          Well...the retired Law....

I have always driven mine as soon as i had paid for it....with ANPR the Plod can tell if its taxed, insured and MOT'd now...

If you have paid to be on the road...get on the road...its bloody expensive enough for most of us...

Thanks for your input lads. I did ring up the local police station to be doubly sure and they confirmed that ok for 5 days without disc but to print off my receipt and keep it in the car.
Just back from a shakedown and all seems fine so roll on the summer.

You're making me jealous...that'll teach me for waiting for the warmer weather before starting work on mine. Hope you're enjoying it.

The law of 'Failing to display' a tax disc has been pushed to one side for the first 5 days with the advent of technology etc etc

Basically, if you have paid for it properly (no bounced cheques etc) then you can lawfully drive your car. There is 5 days grace for not displaying a tax disc, but it is advisable to display the printout whilst awaiting the delivery of the disc

when lewis taxed the fiesta on line, we asked our friendly policeman neighbour whether it was ok to drive without the disc on display, as you said aled, he said it was fine, just carry the confirmed printout around with you etc

                              just a thought

i know alot of peeps work funny hours and cant get to the post office and its much easier on line,but.... when the local po closes through lack of customers we will have to drive twice as far to post anything and the queue will be twice as long cause everybody will have to use the same one! a lady in front of me the other day took in a parcel and said to the postmaster" can you take this its alright ive weighed it and paid for it on line" .spose ime a bit old fashioned and like to support local shops etc we have the milk delivered and the paper, get the bread from the local bakers oh and those computorised tax disc look crap cant beat hand written imo of corse
