Jaguar E Type celebrating 50 years. Be nice to go out and photograph them, but not able to get the day off.
Castle Combe Newsletter
An icon of British motoring, the Jaguar E-Type, celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2011 and has included a visit to Castle Combe Circuit as part of its celebratory events.
50 cars will set out from the Jaguar Heritage Centre in Coventry on Monday 28th February, first stop will be here where the cars will complete a couple of laps of the track before the drivers have lunch and then head off to eventually end up in Geneva where the car was launched on the 15th March 1961. Back in those days you could buy a new one for £2,256 and 15 shillings, the equivalent of £38,000 today. The visit coincides with the 50 outright wins for an E-Type at Castle Combe Circuit between 1962 and now, the first back in 1962 driven by Ken Laker and the most recent win in 2008 by Chris Scragg. Celebrities getting involved include BBC Grand Prix commentator, Martin Brundle and Win Percy, who coincidently finished third behind Brundle when Martin won the BMW County Championship race here in 1980 and then won in a Jaguar here in September 1999.
The cars will start arriving at around 11.30 with the last departing about 14.00. Visitors are welcome although do please note that the Tavern Clubhouse is booked exclusively for the drivers and their passengers and will not be open to the public until after the drivers have left. Any visitors are asked not to park in the central paddock which will be an E-Type exclusive area.
