A Good Family Car?

As my girlfriend is due in June I'm gonna have to think about buying a "family" car and get rid of my williams clio.

I quite fancy a volvo s40 2.0d sport but don't know much about them. Anyone got any bad reviews of them?

Any other suggestions would be greatful. I after something that looks a bit sporty but is still practical. Budget of about £10K

vw passat great family car ,lots of room in the boot for pram etc not very sporty but it's a family car you want . I had to sell my m3 for one, family first and all that

Both good suggestions. Brother in law had a passat and loved it.

With my budget probably only get manage to get one with higher mileage.

Had the same but a V8 giving 18mpg is not great for everyday driving

Family car..

I changed from my Subaru impreza to an Audi A4 Quattro 2.0 Diesel in Jan 2010.....

I am so chuffed with it...great car for both economy and comfort and a huge boot...

I would agree with the Avant suggestion though...I had estates when my kids were little...it was a good move,
