I was talking on the phone to a guy at the Ford dealership down there when it happened. He just thought it was another small aftershock at first so we just carried on talking until it got so bad he had to bail out. The noise was horrendous, sounded like filing cabnets flying around!
My big boss from work was down there visiting our Christchurch office at the time aswell, he was out in the car when it hit, he said it was a very weird experiance, he could see a 4x4 with its wheels lifting off the ground and thought he was seeing things untill he started shaking and moving around and buildings started falling down around him! our Christchurch office was destroyed but everyone got out ok.
Its a shame, christchurch was such a nice place

Him and his family are still alive though.
