If you want a genuine un molested car be prepared to pay between 20 to 25k,,,,, you may find a cheaper nice one if you are lucky,,,,,,, 15 K will get a nice one but not concourse.

Just at the moment a lot of people are finding them in grannys lock up and expecting the lottery win

Steer clear of dealers aswell,,, they will buy for 15k and want 20 k

Hi Mark, my advice would be speak to the model registrars of the AVO or RS Owners Club.

Most of the original & nice cars will already be known to the clubs.

20K does seem to be the norm for a first class RS2000,
an out & out concours car maybe another 2 or 3K

But as with any car it's buyer beware, if you are not sure take someone who knows these cars with you.
It's best you pay for someones time & get an ubiased honest opinion than buy one only to have made an expensive mistake.

i think the point alan was trying to make, wasnt that dealers are BAD, but that if you will get more car for your budget if you buy private. Makes sense to me

i understand that, but in most cases although you pay the mark up you do get the real thing and non of the shit...

the likes of mexico mark are extremely knowledgeable very helpful and will normally know of the right car before the rest of us no its for sale....

and he'll do it for a can of ***e normally

all these car buyers price guides are well of the mark...to start of with whats your budget??? if ya have 20k you will get a minter, 10k a good solid car but will need work to bring it up to the standard of the 20k car...both mk1's are a pretty rare site for sale these days in the area you are looking in....they are out there but you just ave got to be ready to jump when one comes up for sale.....hope ya get what your looking for and if ya do get a car be sure to get some pics of it up....

Very Tricky, most good cars do not need to be advertised!
some pop up now and again but the prices are getting high, maybe due to people realising the motorsport history!
Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts were one of the most successful rally cars ever built from the 1960s through to the early 1980s and then on and on in club rallies.
There is lots of advice to be given but No1 is go and look at the car for sale straight away. If it is good then it will not hang aroung no matter the price, No2 take an expert if you are not sure. Lots all ove the UK that are more than happy to help.
Have a look at the Mexico on Ebay at the moment.
Very original car but needs a bit of TLC, main thing is that it is a one owner + Ford motor company car. Every thing on this early Mexico is correct and looking at the engine bay is all original. Not a show winning car but well worth a look.
If you are a Southern carrot cruncher, there are a few so called experts down here to help (note the word Expert! have I gone a bit too far)

Buying...

As Mark says...take someone with you...there are alot of people who would go to look with you for the price of the fuel to get there...

Any decent genuine car should also have history passed on with it thru all the previous owners....all this adds up to seeing it is genuine...
