might be a silly question this but can you over restore a car ,what i mean is can you get the shut lines ,paintwork etc to perfect as i'm sure cars would have come of production lines with some slightly dodgy shutlines ,paint etc

so if you start looking for perfection it ends up a forever job as there will always be someone who will upset you!! best thing is to make it your own car !!
as long as your happy thats all that matters you would end up round the bend looking for the perfect car ps it dont exist lol

I agree with the above, the only thing i would add is some quality restoration jobs fail on the detail work, and what could be a tidy job is spoil by something silly, for instance triplex glass on one side of the car and securit on the other. Or one Ford headlamp and one Hella, things like that. Like has been said, its all down to what you want from the resto.

Escorts were cheap bangers and were produced as such , most had a sandwich left in the door panel , water leaks , rust and dodgey panel gaps from new . Triggers broom concours cars are 50x better these days , lol .sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .

obsessive behaviour = concours
this reminds me about the time i heard some of the rs500 concours bods moaning about the standard of someone else's 500,it had less than 100 miles and unregistered concours,don't do it,you will go mad the problem when you restore a car you want to get it as perfect as possible and that costswhat i need is a high horse like the others have !

i agree with these comments, perfect gaps and paint etc is for the likes of rollers and sthe like, escorts where built on a production line where volume was more important than quality door gaps ,as long as the door opened and shut it would doi suppose back then .
when i see concours cars they dont really interest me because none of em
would have left the factory looking thaat good and imo some are to much
[owners choice]which i respect as its their car to do whaat they want with it.
it would drive me round the bend worrying about perfect lines and paying a small fortune for that must have gen part that no one really see,s..
i get my pleasure from driving mine and been in the escort scene although i do try to keep improving the car along the way it will never be a minted minter but its mine and im happy with it..Live to regret ..or regret to live.

it all depends on what YOU want out of your motor, some get a buzz out of all the screw heads lined up the same way, others like me like to drive the nuts off them.
I could never build a car thats all show and shine but I take my hat off to those who do.
