If you have cold water mains coming into the house , find the furthest away cold tap and turn it on and leave it running ever so slightly in to a jug and this will stop it from freezing up . Also don't turn the heating off , turn the thermostat down to 30 degrees and this will keep the heating pump running and stop them freezing up , also check your boiler if it's a condensing combi do not let the drain freeze up as this will put the boiler off , disconnect the drain and let it drip into a bucket untill the weather turns milder . Hope this helps out someone . Cheers alex

only problem i had was the drain from the kitchen sink but i never noticed it til the washing machine decided to empty on the floor.
so now my mat that i use for working on the car is against the vent behind on the outside wall hopefully this will stop the cold getting to it

Now the thaw has come , get those pipes insulated at the cold water mains supply , and put some loft insulation in pipe chases and where they are exsposed to the cold air to stop them freezing again , as the freezing temps are bak this week again .
