    • Few photos of my road rally events in the 80s, ok it was a chevette but it did have some Ford DNA in the 2.1pinto under the bonnet, miss those days. Anyone know a website where pictures of these old events are stored, would love to get some more photos of my car

        • Road rallying still going strong here, 25% of the starters in the March event were Escorts.

Big event again on the 12th November for anybody who fancies a blast back to the good old times, although the Escorts do seem a little faster now

          • Rallied a lot in the late 80's and early 90's with some success as a navigator. Pictured here with my girl friend at the time flying over what I called straight on at cross roads, only for the road to disappear below us.

Stay safe and have a good rally. You can wave as you pass my house 283343, you'll be coming up the road to the junction, west to east and turning right, it's a giveway too.

                    • Road rallying is what made me want a MK2.
When i was about 10 i use to get permission to stay up till about 11pm and watch the Beaver Rally which i think started in Beverley East Yorkshire and ran in November every year.
Use to walk down the road to a really slippery 90 degree bend and stand on top of an old WW2 gun turret and listen to then coming, then watch them 'stepping the back out' round the corner...........i was in ore of the sight and sound of the escorts and knew if i ever had the money i would get one one day!
                      Great memories
Please please please can I be in the 'Clique'

                      • 80 's Road Rallying brings back load of memories for me , stood out in the cold til early hours . Living up North we had some great Rallies , Devils Own , Illuminations , etc as well as the Motoring News events . Kirkby Lonsdale and Morecambe local to me so some good motoring clubs also . Miles from Heaves Hotel navigated for a friend of mine on a couple of events so we usually had someone to follow and wait at service stops for . I remember his Escort didn't look much , was all different colours - a gold coloured door or bonnet fresh from Ken Allen's scrapyard the week before ! but he was definitely on pace and with Miles next to him and could keep up with most of the big boys .
Remember waiting at Newby Bridge Services for fuel stop one night and hering a loud crash further up the road . We ran to the crash to find a young lad in a Mercedes had run into the back of Dennis Quinn's Escort which had pulled over to check his time before entering the service halt . The lad's girlfriend wasn't wearing a seatbelt either so windscreen was smashed but she was ok just a nasty bump to her head . Needless to say Dennis's Escort was a mess and he had to abandon the Rally . The car was repaired and back out a couple of weeks later .
Another memory was a night Rally I was watching , think it was North Wales , Ron Beecroft in The Swift Caravans Mk 2 , was leading the Rally , but he crashed into a Morris Minor on his way home from a night out . This held up the event for quite a while and luckily for Ron, after a few minor repairs, that special stage was cancelled so he managed to keep his place in the Rally .
Always remember being parked outside a Little Chef waiting for it to open Sunday morning after the Rally .
                        Fond Memories !!
