ok, so i know about little bit about stage rallying, but how does the format work on a road event like this ?
ie. everyone knows the start point, so all them speccies who want to see the action, go off as soon as the course is know to spectate at various places along it, yes ?
sure i aint the only one

There is nearly always some spectator information sheets with viewing & parking info on them. The motor club needs to keep speccies away from certain areas due to PR & safety issues so offer a few official spectator positions in more suitable locations.Originally posted by grum View Postok, so i know about little bit about stage rallying, but how does the format work on a road event like this ?

This rally has been going 50 years so a quick chat with locals at the start venue would have revealed some of the best places.

As well as buying the spectator info (the best option as these places have been chosen by the organisers as being suitable points to have a large and often noisy group of people and cars congregate at stupid o clock in the morning without upsetting house holders along the route) and chatting to those in the know, you could try speaking to the Chief Marshal and offering to marshal a passage control in return for him telling you of a good place to watch.Originally posted by grum View Postok, so i know about little bit about stage rallying, but how does the format work on a road event like this ?

It used to be common practise to stand next to a reputable navigators window with your OS map out and copy the route he was plotting on his map onto yours, but nowadays any competitor giving route to a spectator can face exclusion from the rally ( a good memory and a degree of subtelty are now needed to do the same thing).
