  • How do I find out history of my car?

    Hi there

I'm new to these forums and wondered if someone could help me find out what colour my car was when it was new.

I live in New Zealand and recently I bought an mk2 RS2000 from the UK - I have joined the RS owners club here in NZ but am trying to trace the history of the car.

Unfortunately the car failed compliance into NZ and has to be stripped and extensive welding etc before it will be allowed into the country (on the roads) During the stripping process it appears the car may have originally been Yellow. Unfortunately the tag on the car is to worn to be able to see what colour it was (its now black)

I have tried to buy an HPI checks etc, but you cant do those from overseas. Is there anyway I can trace it back to the factory using the VIN #?

Am I able to write to Ford? If so do you have any idea what address or who I can speak to? Am I able to have a replica tag made up for the car?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Jason

The DVLA will send you copies of all the previous V5 documents which will reveal the previous owners' details, the car colour is also disclosed on the V5.

The cost of this service used to be £5, and you request this information by completing a V888 form and sending it to DVLA together with payment, I'm not sure whether they offer this service to overseas enquiries....

    DVLA's website details are

Go to the forms section to download the V888 form.

This service generally takes 2-3 months

Thanks heaps for your replies. I've managed to find a mate in the UK who will do the HPI check using his details and credit card.

          Cheers
