PC vs i mac and photoshop question...for the whizz kids!

Right lads n lassies....

I have a laptop at home which is getting a bit by it now so I am interested in a new desktop....

However do I get a PC or an i mac desktop?

I really like the look and the way the i macs work although havent used them before!...use a PC everyday at work.

Also I am looking to get photoshop....but which one?

Any views on the above would be great....as I tried talking to the lad in pc world and they just talk really fast and its constant computer jargon coming out lol

So does anyone recommend a certain one?

I had a similar choice 2 years ago with my laptop and I chose the Mac route and would never go back to a Windows machine out of choice. I went into PC World and asked for a demonstration side by side with an up to date Windows machine. When both machines were booted up, the guy in the shop opened up all the programs available on the Mac and left the Windows computer as it was. He went into the processes information on both computers the Mac was running 1 process as the other 30+ programs lay idle, the windows machine was running 64 processes with no programs open. But give it it's due it ran at the same speed as the Mac but was twice the cost.

I use my Mac on a daily basis, sometimes for probably 10 hours a day and never switch it off, I only ever close it down if I'm moving it anywhere ie working at a customers etc. It can be left on at up to a fortnight or three weeks at a time and it never slows down and that's playing around with 20-30mb images on a regular basis.

The operating system differences were what put me off changing to the Mac in the first place, it took me an hour or so to find out where everthing was and it is so much simpler than the Windows OS.

If you think of how many OS that Windows computers have had and they all get their glitches of crashing and slowing down etc and the latest is a complete rip off of Leopard OSX which Mac's have been using for years.

It's a bit of a myth that there are no viruses for Macs, there are. But they are very few and far between, a virus is written for a specific OS and they are designed to have the most effect, why write a virus that will effect 2% of the market when you can write one and kill 98% of the market ??

As for PS obviously the latest version is always going to be the best, but that all depends on what you want to do with it. Alot of people have the most up to date and don't use half the features in it, so why pay for them. I use CS2 all the time and do a lot of graphic / photo related work and still don't use half the features on it (although I have a copy of CS5 coming as it is meant to have a few clever features which are targeted at photographers)

as above, depends what you want to do - messing about with pictures etc, with a Photoshop you can get very good results from a pc.

but as Maccy says, and i know a few friends myself who do design work, media stuff, all they use are Macs
