  • New engine

Had my new engine delivered today and have to say looks a beauty.
It was built more for low down torque than top end power and registered 152.6 BHP AT 6600 RPM with 151.3 ft/lbs of torque at 4400 rpm so will be plenty for me.
This has been a long term project (5 years) as I could only do bits when money permitted but now can't wait to get it fitted during the winter.
    Spec is

    2.1 fully balanced
    Brand new twin 45's
    Burton bf134 cam
    44mm inlet valves
    38mm exhaust valves
    H&H ignition system
    Kent cams adjustable vernier
    Double dowelled flywheel
    Competition single plate clutch

    Phil.

That's real good numbers there phil, you've done the right thing to make a good road car, and not get caught up with the pub ammo brigade.

Phil Jones Engine Developments of Chipping Sodbury near Bristol. Very helpful and knows his stuff.

Thanks for your nice comments. After such a long time to get to here I just want to get it fitted and try it.
As an aside Phil said to use 20W50 synthetic oil but I have no experience of this type so what is the stuff to use?

                  Phil.

                    Phil.
The BF134 is a very good cam for road use even with twin 45's.

AFAIK there is no 20W50 synthetic oil.
Ask the man/company that build the engine what oil they used.
If its anything else than a mineral 15W50 or 20W50 mineral oil change the oil and filter and use the mineral type of oil.
You need a HTHS (high temp high shear) oil for the Pinto and most synthetic oils are not.

Its now the only oil I use in my MKII

                      Lucas Oil Fully Synthetic 20/50

Am hoping to get a group deal with Lucas Oil but I can get off the shelf at the moment for £30

Dave, is that Lucas oil from Lucas the old company?
                        What spec is it?
The only synthetic oil I know that was good for a Pinto is Castrol RS 10W60.

That's a good enough recommendation for me. There is a stockist just up the road from where I work so will call in and see them.

                          Thank's
