Red tape ....

I chopped a car up recently and scrapped it, nothing much left of it, local scrap metal dealer took away what was left.

I still had V5 on a continuous SORN decleration and decided that I should notify that it was now scrapped, looked at the V5 and by the scrapped box it says 'check guidance notes'

So being one to do things right I went on line to check, what bollox, cos I scrapped it myself I don't have a document provided by the 'approved' dismantler, so what option is there ?

Well I can continue to tax it apparently, even tho it no longer exists

or

I can declare it SORN , even tho it no longer exists

and this is on the DVLA website

A second car that I bought a while ago which was off the road before the SORN thing came in, or so I thought, I decided best declare SORN, big mistake.

I hadn't received any SORN reminders or anything, car is legally in my name, so I assumed it had never been SORN , wrong, after I declared SORN I was informed that the last one ran out in 09, I bought it end of 08 (no reminder came) and now I may be liable for outstanding revenue from May 09 to current SORN date (today)

Tossers . We scrapped a Truimph 2500 mk2 last weekend and chopped into 4 bits with a petrol grinder then weighed it in . Neighbour sent off the log book (it was his car) so i'll keep you informed as to what happens with the DVLA ****s

Cant you get a document from the scrappy Paul

All i do with the cars i break is simply tick the scrapped box but dont fill in any of the personal details

that way they know its scrapped but dont know who scrapped it

I checked a car 2 months after i did this with HPI and the car came back as scrapped and on the date i put on the logbook when i sent it so it works ok

Thanks for your help guys, spoke to a few people today and may be able to sort the scrappage doc from the metal dealer who took the remains away, failing that I'll tick the box and send the form away and hope for the best.

As for the SORN on the other I have pics of the car on the spit dated so if they try to say pay up its always been off road since 08 and before.

Even if a car was off the road since before sorn as soon as there is a change of keeper it needs sorning by the new keeper, it's allways been that way, mind your not aloan i know loads of people who've made the same mistake and as for the reminders, what reminders? i aint had one in 3 years and i have 9 cars in me name, they never get that bit right
