  • Anyone an MOT tester here?

Can anyone confirm whether modified engines still have to pass an emissions test when they go through MOT?

Mine is running twin 40's and the car failed on emissions as it was just slightly above the acceptable levels. I was thinking of turning the mixtures down, but have been reading some interesting replies in my other thread in the Tech Talk section: http://forums.turbosport.co.uk/bbs/s...&page=0#362427

It seems that an emissions test may not be strictly required for cars with modified engines such as mine - they are only subject to a visible smoke test - can anyone tell me if this is true or not???

I really dont want to play around with the carbs at the moment as they run very well.

    Thanks

Emissions is done on age of car not engine.

      Phil,
You can request a 'fast idle test' on older cars, this carried out at 2500rpm, which should allow a modified pinto on twin carbs to level out.
My car passed on this test.
      Good Luck

Mine passed on grey's which is nice LOL....

I am pretty sure you can request emissions done on date of engine as well as car...but older is better

Think if your car is pre 75 then it is exempt?? My old MK1 RS2000 on an N plate was.

Frosticles right pre 1975 just gets a visual test post 1975 has a limit of 4.5 co and 1200 HC , if it fails on the HC being to high it then gets a fast idle test. You cant request one .With most modern 4gas emmision testers you just put the age in and the machine just guides you through the test if the reading is too high it will conduct a fast idle test automatically.
To be fair if it fails 4.5 co at idle its not running right anyway. Car,s with big cams/overlap will fail the 1200 hc but should manage to pass at 2500 rpm FAST IDLE as long as its not too wild a cam,
If you get it in writing from the manufacture that the engine fitted cant pass the limit set for the age of the car it gets tested to the limits of the engine like Dingy rightly said ,
              Cheers Paul
P,s Mot stations have to keep all emission results for post 1992 cat equipped cars for 3 months
BUT the results for pre 1992 cars can be binned straight away Not that im suggesting anything
