  • Researching Twin Cam History

I really am in need of help. I have a 1971 Sunset Red Twin Cam first registered in Portugal, then Spain where I found it and now in France with me. I have a list of all the Portugese owners and for the first three, letters have produced virtually nothing. A number of people have said they could help and it has come to nothing.
To start with I am looking for a contact in Portugal who knows the older car scene and who speaks either French or English.
Then someone who is close to Lisbon and who could visit the first two registered owners. The first is the Ford main dealer and the second another garage.
I can furnish more details later...but can anyone really help me ?

    Hi,
Speak to Mexicomark, what he doesn't know about the origins of Mk1 Escorts isn't worth knowing. I'm not sure he could help language wise but if you gave him the chassis number I'm sure he could come up with something to help you.

    Best of luck.

Good thought, but the AVO Club/Mark have no info.
I need someone to physically visit the two garages and ask the questions.

It's about the right time of year for him to sign up for night school in Portugese.

Since when did you speak Portugese ? The beginning of this thread ?
Have you got that car dirty yet ?

Ok, back on track. I really do need to find someone near to or in Lisbon.

I do have a Portugese contact (who I think is in or near Lisbon) and who's interest is rally history - but I think he is a bit busy at present to chase down anything on any subject.
Do you have any reason to believe it was rallied by either of those first two owners? I'd be less confident of tracing a standard/road car (or of his potential interest in anything not rally history orientated).

                        Thanks for that KL.
Well, I don't think, judging by its condition that it had been rallied. It was registered with two others, consecutive numbers and the other two are known. Maybe mine was a demonstrator ? Or the manager's car?
I appreciate that your contact may be busy or less inclined to chase about after a less famous car.
From my point of view it is very frustrating to have a list of virtually all the owners and no information. Since the car was in Spain and now in my hands it is amassing some competition history.

John I also have a portugese contact that is a Twin Cam owner that as competion history.
His is a 68 car so not one of the batch yours was in.

Give me a couple of days to see if I can turn up anything on his car as I'm sure he will be more willing help us if I have helped him.
                          Mark....
