                Graham,

I was there for 7 weeks working at the world cup 4 years ago, but we hired an apartment in Freising which is not far from Munich airport.

I know some of my colleagues stayed just outside the centre of munich @ a Marriott, it had a sports bar in it, great for watching the footy. Address is
                Berliner Straße 93
                80805 München, Deutschland.

Try and visit the aussie bar outland too, and there an irish bar nr marienplatz called Kilians :-)

Enjoy yrself, its a great place to visit.

Went on a Stag Do in Munich in 2002

Plenty of "entertaining" type bars with many and varied "acts / turns" in the city centre

We stayed in a hotel near the main train station

Got a taxi from the airport and the same taxi driver then each night took us to some local areas of specialist knowledge

Best night out was in Kuntz Strasse - a bit like a Hollywood movie set from a gangster movie - it was actually an old industrial estate where loads of bars - restaurants and a pole dancing club are all away from residential areas

Went also to the Stein Bar in the centre of Munich town where Hitler held a meeting around the time of the night of the long knives

Also we went on a train for an organised trip to Dachau Concentration camp - weird thing to do BUT it is a must place to visit

At the time for my ring tone I had Dads Army Theme (well we were in Germany) and my phone went off whilst in a very sombre moment with the tour guide inside the reconstructed sleeping hut/barrack of the prisoners

Most interesting fact though when speaking to any of the locals of any age is they are all of the same opinion that it was the Nazi's who went to war and it was not the Germans !

Well, got back this morning, what a great place, the build up to oktoberfest (beer festival), U2 and bono on wednesday evening and a city with fantastic architecture

was luck to stumble along to the launch of the New Audi A1, lovely sporty thing

already quite a huge demand for the little performer
