  • Any of you guys into "proper" F1....

....Gears & Tears on BBC1 tonight - Monday 2nd August.

It's a documentary series about the F1 Stock Car Season.

This is what I used to go and watch as a kid with the family, before I joined the RSOC and my life was taken over by clothing!!!

If you can get to watch it, please do!

    Stock Car Racing is Magic!!!

It's about the bitter rivalry between the Wainmans and Smiths.

      War of the Roses.

      It's a 6-part documentary series - you'll have to catch next weeks.

      It was DEAD good!

I didn't know Wainman Jnr was nearly killed in 2008 after crashing his car.

Which magazine was it that famously described UK short oval racing as "populated by steely-eyed Essex men with tatoos, beer guts, pockets full of used 50s and a shooter in the boot"?
If the series intends to dispell that image, it hasn't started too well....

Watching Stock Car Racing was our weekly jaunt as a family outing when I was younger.

My mum used to run Andy & Steve Hodgson's fan club.

There's nowt better than coming home with shale in your hair and stinking of petrol and rubber fumes!

Lisa Smith (nee Harter) was pants as a lady stock car driver - the best lady stock car driver was Jayne Bean!

Still I suppose if it looks good for tv!

Excellent stuff, just watching it now. I spannered for Nigel "Buster" Watson for a couple of seasons and met Stuart Smith and a lot of the other guys, lots of beers and barbies and fixing cars in the mud and rain - great fun and those F1 cars are proper beasts
