Note when your MOT man gives an advisory to fit a split pin in your TRE, do it straight away

Steering had felt vague for a good while today (over 30 miles) but wasnt getting worse so i thought nothing of it. (plus my last escort had a quickrack fitted so im still not used to the feeling of a normal rack again)then it just dropped out, car all over road and i had very little control, managed to put it in to the muddy edge with no real damage, wheel was at right angles to the car though

Was in a terrible spot on the Grasmere to Ambleside road, had to move it, so with the nut long gone, had to improvise. Circular keyring through the split pin hole got me round to the local police yard (my sister works there) and then i had to go to my nightshift. Dad ventured back up with another nut, sorted and now safely tucked up at home.

We were very lucky, were overtaking lorries/buses at 70mph+ only minutes beforehand, and being the passenger side TRE it would have pulled the car right into them.

    Lesson learnt.

Also thanks to the W***ERS passing beeping their horns. who does that help??

Dont let VOSA see this thread

Definately NOT an advisory item - this is a straight fail - Steering Component Locking Device missing

If this was the only item on your car I would have fitted a split pin straight away for you

Thats a close call buddy, well done for getting to safety and using common sense with the keyring. And good job no damage done too. It must be asked what happened to the pin or was it never there from the start? Maybe we should all just take a quick peek at this to make sure all pins are present and in order.
Why do we pay others to do a job we did ourselves?

      Ever paid for conveyancing?
