Y Reg Broadstripe?

Think in the early days cars imported to uk got "New" plates, mate of mine has a Y reg pre custom imported from Jersey. I bought a mk2 on a T plate that was actually a 1977 car imported from Jersey years ago from a work mate.
The reg in pic looks like maybe a "private plate" but must be age related as you cant make a car appear younger than it is.

Thats what I thought but the younger thing proves that wrong.

Iv got an RS2000 RHD import shell and ID thats on a Y plate.
