I set off in my pickup towards Egremont to buy some bolts for the TR, had my mate and 10 year old daughter on board, as we came down the main street in Egremont I commented how quiet it was, no one anywhere, next minute a LR Discovery pulls across infront of me and 2 coppers jump out and tell us to get off the street and indoors anywhere asap, the place we were going to was just 500 yards down the road so we decide to head there, unfortunately 200 yards down the road some poor bloke was dead on the pavement, my daughter was the first to spot the guy, I'm not afraid to say I was shaking by now, I spun the pickup round and we headed home as faast as the old Ranger would go.

The roads and town are deserted.

    Not nice at the moment.

                This is a tragedy

My Michelle was in Carlisle hospital today and there was a flood of helicopters landing with the injured.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, as you may gather there is a lot of talk going on up here at the moment amongst the locals, it is beleived that although the press are saying the taxi driver is the first killing there were already killings before he entered town. The news can account for 5 deaths today but there are 12 in total not including the culprit.

Looking at the time scales of things now known it is frighteneing to consider how close we were to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, we must have missed the shooting in Egremont by minutes.

Having seen the victims picture now on the news channels I did know of the lad and where he was killed is the best wee pie/sandwich shop in town, I often stood next to the lad in there because it is right beside the taxi rank where the shootings took place.

Whitehaven deserved to be noticed because it is a cracking wee town, and some good Escorts have circled the streets ,didn't want it on the map for this tho.

                    Cheers, Paul

I'm very sorry to hear about your frightening experience and all the people that have suffered in your area today. I hope your little girl can put these nasty visions behind her soon.
