  • 1 owner from new.

Hi to all, as a few of you on here know I have had my RS from new.
My question is does this make it worth any more than if it had had say 6 owners.
My thoughts are that it doesn't because if I ever sold it(which god forbid if that day ever dawns) then the day it goes it obviously ceases to be a 1 owner car.
Would anyone ever pay say £2000 or whatever extra knowing that the day they take delivery that premium price is lost.
I would be interested to hear what others think

    Phil.

I would say it makes a difference for sure.

It gives the impression that the original owner has cared for the car.

As for the premium, it depends on condition.

i would prefer to buy a one owner car than a car that has had numerous owners as i feel it would have better history and be a more original and looked after better than a car which has had more than one owner.

I would like to think I have treated my car to a lot more love, attention and expensive "treats" than the previous 10 owners

A 1 owner may well appear more desirable but it could also be a poisoned chalice

The rules when buying anything remain the same - Caveat Emptor - BUYER BEWARE - if an item is what the buyer wants and is happy with that item then buy it, if not walk away

btw:- My Range Rover when I bought it was a 1 owner - its not what you could call concourse - lol

agree with the above, especially the caring for it all these years part of it

im only the 3rd owner of mine - Tuscan Neil is only the second owner of his

on the othere side of things, i knew of an S reg car RS2000 in B'mth that in 1988 was on its 14 owner , mind you it did have a full length webasto

depends how you look at this i have a few 1970's bikes that are one owner not me i just havent changed the logbooks and if i sold them i think it helps with the price

but a car had a few ferraris and one testarossa had had about 6 owners in ten years and the history was amazing every time it was sold it was serviced and had loads spent on it it had the most history onf any one i had owned then you get the man thats had it 10 years with very limited servicing as he didnt want to spend the money

agree, a very nice position to be in, a first and only owner, if its the right car people will pay a premium as said

a comprehesive history, such as MOTs would be a big bonus

im the 6th owner...2 of which were garage/dealers

1 owner cars or low owner are very nice to buy if you can find them,i think as said before the history pays a big part also.its very unusal to find bda"s or twincams with low owners cause in thier day they were pretty troublesome. alot of board members imo will probably have their cars for a very long time to come and when the day comes to sell i can imagine some people saying BET THAT OLD BOYS HAD THAT FROM NEW!!!

Depends on condition and nothing else really . A clean car with 15 previous owners is worth more than a patched up rotten car with 1 owner .

Very nice selling point but the car will sell itself IMO

PAU with only 925 miles on it has IIRC 6 ish owners ( 5 between 1980 and 1996 ) before my friend Robert owned it for 9yrs until he sold it in 2006.
Did that make it less desirable? No probably not but the then 2006 RS2000 Registrar did knock the valuation due to the "high" number of owners

Many thanks for all your replies.
Much as I thought seems condition is far more important than the number of owners.
A low owner car is nice but does not increase value by much if at all seems to be the consensus above.

                          Thanks

Im technicaly the 3rd owner of mine, but really only the 2nd, the actual 2nd owner only had it for 2 weeks, and my car was less than pristine, so probably didnt matter if it had 20 owners or 2, it was looked after by an old codger who got all his maintanence work done by what must be some of the worst mechanics ive ever seen ahwell shes in a better ownership now

When i was looking for my RS(skater),i looked at loads of cars that had many owners and most were crap, found my one owner car and was 1000 times better, but as said some with 10 owners can be aswell looked after.
