I went into a scrap metal yard today to get rid of a few bits and after id unloaded the crap i had i spotted a gearbox tail shaft sticking up out of a metal box, on inspection it turned out to be a type e four speed with a VERY good RS2000 bell housing, i went to the office and asked if they would sell it to me, the woman in there was ok with me but she didn't have the final say and kept shouting over to another fella who was,,,, erm,,, being narkey about it, he wouldn't talk to me direct, and via the woman i was told a load of old cobblers about how they cant sell it to me as they are not authorised to sell parts, then it was insurance issues that stopped them selling it in case i had a problem with the box and had an accident, amongst other excuses.
At this point i stated that ill take the bellhousing only then and that they would never see me again if they were worried, no! wont sell the alloy bit cos alloy is too valuable.
I pleaded that parts are getting rarer by the day and that this could potentially keep an old car on the road , he just gave me a couldn't give a **** look.
Then despite the supposed legal issue of selling it to me he said i can have it for £150 the greedy fat coont.
Needless to say i walked away
It boils my blood that he would rather scrap it than help some one out or even earn a fair price on it considering he only sees it as scrap metal an probably payed a tenner for it as mixed metals.
