every time concours causes problems - every bit of bad tempered. ill feeling towards others (and dont say it doesnt go on) and general bad vibes have only ever been caused by the scene -

all this petty argueing does my feckin head in

what was a nice relaxed, chilled weekend will just be remembered for all this shite that has blown up since

Personally I never understood the "have a car but not use it" ethos........

dont get me wrong, i appreciate all of the hard work and care that goes into the cars, but as soon as that competitive element comes into it, it changes somewhat

i dont think the competitors are complaining g

there will always be issues around concours in one way or another throughout the season, for some reason tho it seems to be the older marques that the problems arrise

I have to say that the whole concours thing is like a nest of vipers, so much back biting, tale telling and a**e kissing that goes on behind the scenes (sometimes out in public as well) that I have to agree about it bringing a damper down on what is intended to be an enjoyable weekend. I know rules are rules etc but a slither of common sense would go a long way in the interpretation of them, I doubt this is something that will change though as we are talking about some very obsessive people here, on both sides!
This is in no way meant as a dig at anyone in particular but in my experience of the whole RS scene over many years I have found that more arguements have been caused by the concours side of the club than any other single issue, people loose all sense of perspective when their pride and joy is being judged and it comes out as bitterness and anger which is normally directed at club officials who in turn tend to start quoting rules back at them. I know, as many years ago I had to judge at a local show and it is a thankless task, people who I count as friends were upset by having marks knocked off because I had to be as subjective and impartial as I could be, which is why you need to be above reproach because if you aren't then you can't judge correctly.
One final thing about the whole concours scene, although I appreciate all the effort that goes into getting a car up to the standards that we see today but in my eyes it does distract from the soul of what the RS marque is all about, the cars were meant to be driven and driven hard, it's all very nice seeing an Escort on blocks with mirrors around it but I'd rather see one going sideways any day of the week!

tis my first season in concours and I have so far made some new friends and both the judges who have looked at mine have been fair and honest and told me what i need to improve so for me it has so far been a good experience

That is exactly the way I looked upon my judging of the cars, as a pointer to what they could do to improve, maybe it's because you haven't been doing it as long and your not so tainted yet that you have, in my opinion anyway, the right attitude, fair play to you and keep at it in the same spirit you've started.

thats good jase, i tried to give you a few pointers as to improve the car, just a few, not a long list as this may well have put you off, and im not saying theres huge amounts to do, little by little just to encourage the novice people. hope that sounds fair, i did the same to the other competitors as well
