  • RS2000 Mk2...first sighting

In the late 70's my father used to drive a car transporter from the huge (well it was to me at the time!) Nuneaton depot of The Toleman Group.

I still distinctly remember going with him during the long summer holidays, delivering TR6's, Spitfires, Dolomites and XJS's (even the occasional Allegro and Marina!) to dealers around the Midlands. I was roughly 10 years old.

I can recall the bland Ford range of the day and seeing in rows of 20 cars, various shades of brown Cortina's and Granada's with one row near the fence line of Escorts with strange front ends and great colours including bright green and orange!. I did get to sit in them with there plastic seat coverings and rock the steering (probably going "vroom vroom")

I was hooked and within 9 years (with horrendous insurance premiums!)was the proud owner of SCC578T, Venetian Red RS2000 Custom which I owned until 1990.

Still absolutely determined to own another, but may have to wait until son has gone thro' Uni !!

Strange how some memories become 'fixed' in your mind, even tho' now past the 40 year mark!

In hindsight, should have got me dad to get one and stick it in a shed somewhere!
sigpicSCC 578T not taxed since I sold it in late '80's

I was waiting for a bus in in my home town of Liverpool... i was 12 years old, when i heard this roaring sound of a cherry bomb or Janspeed exhaust screaming round a roundabout opposite the bus stop, on looking further it was a T reg Venetian Red RS2000 with a BVR and stuffed inside was about 6 Scals all shouting and screamin there heads off..... aww memories...
Only the other day i drove to that exact roundabout in GUF and relived the moment.... no little kids at the bus stop though

    My First memory.....
