Possibly and we all secretly knew this I suspect. It doesn't stop consideration toward a cumulative based system though. Even a small percentage decrease for vehicles registered from Jan 73' to Jan '81 say, would be a step in the right direction. Might not be much, but it's something..

      sounds good,

it is true though waht they say, as alot of people don't use their old fords everyday, they don't so huge miles and often they only see the road for 6 months a year. so seems unfair to charge the full price.

if they don't make it free, i think they should just charge £20 for a year, or something must less than it should be, they will still be getting a fair few quid from it,

toyota prius is free tax and people use them everyday and damage the roads with them.

We can hope, but I suspect the figure would be significantly higher than that unfortunately.......assuming they would introduce some degree of change in the first place?? This has been a major issue for me in the time I've owned my Mexico and a contributory factor in why it has seen only minimal use since restoration. In almost 9 years of ownership I've only taxed it for an equivalent two years and even then claimed back the miniscule amount after 4 months on a six month fee.. Tight yes, but I'm a stubborn man of principle, even to the detriment of my own enjoyment. I have many interests, Escorts are only one of them. Any recognition of the need for a reassessment of the system would start to change my attitude on this..that and the fact that values (for me at least) are now approaching resto costs (with a little way to go).. Time tends to balance things a little..

                Conservatives

One wonders if they would have replied so quickly had there not been an impending General Election.

Certain fact is the current lot won`t get my vote

Well done Dave , I commend you for contacting them. problem is they are all politicians and play the game better than they hold up promises made on pre election. Hope they took on board what you asked for, maybe a joining of classic car forums on this one to boost the numbers behind the request might have more clout with them.

                    Dear Mr O'Neill,

I am writing on behalf of Kevin Cannon to thank you for your e-mail.

Under the previous RSOC administration, we introduced a rolling measure so that registrars would be exempt from expenses (the cash) if they were more than 25 years old.

Get voting for the Conservatives, better than the bunch of muppets that have brought this country to it's knees after being handed BALANCED BOOKS when they took over.

If Labour had never got into power in the first place we would all be on the road tax-free!!!!!!!!!!
