if you have a choice three phase is a better option, better starting, more reliable, more scary if your not used to it.just dont stick your fingers in it.
we got a single phase 200l one last year and its in fairly heavy use every day of the week, never given any trouble atall THINK it was £500 from the local motorfactors but this was with extras bought and thrown in and all too so not an exact price.
Try your best to avoid the cheapo single phase comp motors (machine mart type things). They tend to be disposable, ie unrepairable. The cheap rotor castings dont do well with centrifugal force, and the bars snap. Sometimes the look perfect inside but have no power, and that is the fault that loads of them develop. Trying to get a decent motor these days isn't easy, ones that are good cost a bomb. WEG do resonable quality at reasonable money . Even Brooks stuff isn't brilliant anymore (unless you buy cast iron and pay megabucks)
Honda engine may not be a bad idea
