there was a few round my way back in the day,

one was up for sale up the road, I went and kicked the tyres it was in good condition but I thought the £200 asking price was a bit dear as it had no tax or ticket and was brown

The 4 door sport was definitely a UK car in the early years of Escorts.

A neighbour of mine had a diamond White P plater with chrome gutters and mirrors, was an OOO reg prefix.

A mates Dad had a bronze 1300 sport 4 door with orange decals.

Another neighbour had a 1300 E in gold (4 door)

A third neighbour had a White RS2000 Mk 1 with blue decals

A fourth neighbour had a 1300 L in blue another 76 P plater ( which became my first car)

Just to add to the debate : how about 1600 Ghia two doors ?

I had a 1976 in metallic blue - auto as well with green tinted glass and opening front 1/4 windows !!
            Cheers Rob.

hell Rob, you live in a big neighbourhood

in my familly, we had a 4 door 1300 sport, think it was S reg, will have a look for the pics in the familly album.

From 1978 onwards, the sport was 'only' available in two door form, however before we get caught up in a "oh no it wasnt" i clearly remember that a four door was obtainable under special order (Ford still had plenty of four door shells available as they were available in other model trims etc) and they would certainly not have turned an order away for the sake of a couple of extra doors, all be it it did add to the delivery period by two - three weeks

Ref the Ghia, my 'boss' in work in 1978 had a two door 1.6 Ghia Auto in Taffr Beige from new

in short, pretty much was available if you really wanted it, and FoMoCo were still reasonably flexible with production then

will try and post some 'Facts' up later
