Been meaning to post about it for ages but with getting the escort and gearing up for Spa, I somehow conveniently forgot about it.....
Well, I was in the sunny Lake District yesterday at Grizedale Forest for what was casually titled a “fun day in the lakes” which consisted of a 2mile “warm up”run, followed by a 20mile mountain bike ride, then another 5mile run over to Lake Coniston where the canoe’s were waiting for us to do a 1.5mile water course then onto the finish with a 4mile run and just when we thought it was over a small “obstacle” course which would’nt have been a problem if we’d have done it at the start but when your knackered it really tested my sense of humour........I’m defo getting too old for this caper.
Was absolutely shagged after it regretting after about half way round my lack of preparation (read fitness). Was for a good cause tho, Help For Heroes although it was’nt a “charity event” lots of teams involved were doing it for there own causes/reasons/self mutilation.
Was impressed with how fit some of the teams were as when my team got back to the “transition stage” after the bike ride and still had the 2 runs and canoe bit to do one team had already finished, and another was just coming in to view.
The hardest part for me physically and mentally was dropping down from the fell tops heading towards Coniston knowing that I had the steep climb back up to the top and onto the finish line...........I’m sure Ive done harder “tests” in the past but at the time could’nt quite remember when........
