  • A very rare short wheel base MKII RS2000 has surfaced

I have been contacted today regarding an RS owner who's axle is too close to the gearbox and the propshaft has hit the gearbox and caused a failure

It appears his shell is too short

Does anyone know anything about this !

That could explain it as he may have a long first gear that then needs the length of the gearbox longer to fit it in

you all may well take the mick, but it is a well known fact that in the late 1970's Early 1980's several manufacturers were producing hybrid cars for competition purposes, the most well known being the 'shortened ' lancia 037, and of course the Audi Quattro 'Sport' both being considerably shorter than the mainstream models, therefore what i think we have here is a very rare short wheelbase RS2000 as produced by Daley autos, based in Willesden and also latterly, Fulham. The car was on general release on April 1st 1999. Chief fabricator Terry McCann was well known in the local pub 'The Cut 'n' Shut' as a leading exponent of his day and could box anything, particularly series X cars with the distinctive 'box' arches. Those of you at Castle Combe 2009 may recall AndyC / NUB had to be (unusually) trailered home, how many of you recall the puzzled look on the recovery trucks drivers face as he said RS2000's usually overhang the back of the breakdown truck, -- we should have realised then that what we were seeing was truly a creation of Daley autos.

The pictures (below) clearly show several escort owners awe at the shorter version of the RS2000 as built by Daley autos, in Fact Taffr is visibly showing how much shorter NUB actually is, at least an arms length over normal roadgoing examples

RSOC registrar Robbo Pop also shows the 'missing arms length' whilst Grum (just out of shot to the left) checks the propshaft dimensions

                          hope this helps
