Spent the morning horse riding and getting rained on. Used the rest of the day wiring up, moving and setting up my Myford lathe, and cleaning the garage .

Great little lathe the Myford. Come a long way since mine was built, as mine has the flat drive belts and was used during the war to make a part for the Wellington Bomber.

Nice bit of living history you have there then. Is it one of the Drummond/Myford M's ? Mine seems to have a worn bed, seem to have a 'ratting good fit' at the business end, when adjusted at the tail-stock end. Have too speak to the good people at Myford and see what they say. I can see a full machine restoration happening here....

Drummond Myford M?....does not ring a bell but I'll have a closer look at it tomorrow and see. I think you can get the bed reground if you wanted, mine is a bit worn at the business end but has not caused any serious probs yet and I seem to get by. It was my Dads lathe and has not run for at least 5 or so years. I have not long had it set up in my workshop but to get it to run I require a v belt to take the drive from the motor to a pulley which on the other end has the flat belt pulley which handles the drive to the lathe.

could it be due to the retarded ignition?
