  • Dont try to start a frozen engine !

    Had a customers car in today - 53 Plate 1.4 Peugeot 206 8v

They had tried to start car in the frost but engine coolant was froze solid (very weak anti freeze mixture)

Water pump was solid with the ice and as it is driven by cam belt when they tried to start engine the belt jumped a number of teeth.

As they contined to turn engine over the cambelt stayed intact and it caused all 8 valves to hit the pistons and the head fell off one exhaust valve

Managed to salvage the head though

Having head skimmed tomorrow and then rebuild it

That's why i like the pinto , fan belt off run for 5 mins leave for 20, fan belt on drive off
Had a frozen transit (03 plate) in a few weeks back, fortunatly a space heater and a new bottom hose sorted that one, the owner was very happy when i only charged him 50 sheets, he was crapping it
Allways amazes me the amount of people who come in after the temp drops below freezing for an antifreeze top up, dont they know it's allways more expensive to buy in the winter and even more expensive if they dont do it at all
