    Are these any good?
Have been offered one in need of resto but can't get up much enthuasim.
Nice enough wee motor 1600 with hard top but I imagine parts would be a nightmare.

    Any beta owners on here?

It's a two door with a removable hard top. At least I assume it's removable. Either that or the roof's not a very good fit.

That's what I needed to hear. I have enough headaches at the minute.

At least with an escort, when finished you still have an escort.

Now I like Top Gear but to vote for Lancia as the best overall car must of been them being ironic (have you been to Italy lately and seen the god awful looking pieces of euro crap that come with Lancia badges on??), they also promote the benefits of owning Alfa's (same parent company), to be honest anyone who has owned either will say how the cars "stir the emotions", what they don't say is that most of the emotions are anger , frustration and sadness , countered only by occassional highs of joy when, for a brief moment, everything on the car works wonderfully for five minutes (lulling you into a false sense of another fleeting emotion - satisfaction) before it starts to fall apart again!
All I'll say is that when they are right they are a lovely motor but be prepared to go through a lot of grief to get that fleeting moment especially if you want to enjoy driving one and not just roll it on and off a trailer to shows. I'm not bitter but I have had my pockets emptied in the past by a couple of Italian lovelys.

if it breaks it wasn't strong enough
rebuild it and try again !

They were built at a time when Italy made a barter deal with Russia for steel ( I can't remember what Italy gave the Russins - spagetti?)

The rest is history - most Italian cars from that era rusted away in a very short time.

My brother had a few, good engines, handled well, but rust and very low residual values. I would advise to avoid.

It was in exchange for the Fiat dies and tooling for Lada, the Italians didn't want to be paid in Russian Ruples so they did a deal for the steel, shame the Italians didn't get a mettalurgist to check the steel first.

Beta's are great cars and handle great . Watched them racing in the Italian intermarque championship a few years ago and not much could keep up with a sorted Beta . Yes they rust but no worse than Escorts do , look at some of the rust buckets that people on here restore if you don't beielve me , lol .
