doing self assessment for ages. its a pain but the hm revenue website is very good and helpful. accountants will normally give some advice over the phone to clarify any small issues.

I used to be self employed and got proper foooooooked over by the taxman due to the useless advice given to me by the tax helpline . My advise would be to get a proper PAYE job with a firm and then you can sleep at night !!!!!

I'm self employed. Get a good accountant and claim back all the allowables.

The online tax return is a bit of a nause.

Most tradesmen are self employed but still work for companies which stop your tax at 18% at source . Then you have to pay for N.I. stamps and the rest of the tax you owe at the end of the finanical year . If the self assesment form is filled out wrong they rape your arse and charge you extra . The fooooookers stitched me up for an extra £5000 one year so all i'm saying is be carefull .
