Just how fast are the 'new'MK2 Escorts? have they been timed against any newer rally and race cars? Are they any faster than Ari's Black Beauty?
Just wondering....
I would imagine a 2.5+ litre Millington engine and sequential gearboxed "new" mk1/2 Escort will **** all over an oldskool BDA works car no sweat . I could be wrong of course but i doubt it , lol .
sigpic 2.1 ATMO YB POWER .
Tick tock goes the clock and the clock don't lie .
12.4sec to 109mph With NO turbo , NO gay trailer , NO slicks , NO gas , NO race fuel and NO bits missing . Beat that !!!!
2.0 BD 250bhp v 2.5 Millington Diamond 300+bhp and torque to match
5 speed zf v 6 speed sequential
13" wheels v 16" / 18" wheels (and therefore MUCH bigger brakes and tyre footprint)
Good old Billies v remote resevoir 3 way adjustable dampers
Live axle v I R S
"Modern" Escorts are much quicker than original spec cars.
Be interesting to see if any forum members who own both types could tell us how many seconds per mile though.
It would be a great mag feature , classic old skool BDA rally car verses a New skool Millington rally car with all the latest bits . I reckon on gravel/mud etc the old one would be as fast but on the dry tarmac and it would be toast .
The old car wins in the looks department though , all those 15 inch wheeled new rally Escorts look fooooookin crap .

I've seen the odd Super dooper "new" 300+bhp (or so they reckon) Duratec rally car with sequential gearbox , 10 inch wide cut slicks etc etc racing at Santa Pod at the classic Ford show over the last few years . Slow as foooooook normally , 14's on a good day ............

i was going thru some old videos(VCR!), remember them, and I found some great footage of Roger Clark in the Cossack RS1800 and Ari in Allied Polymer. They were the fastest of all it seemed. When Ari took to Isle of Man it was a bloody good video, so quick! And it got me thinking, have we really got that much quicker in 20(30!) years? Technology aside, why does it cost so much to build a MK2 Escort for rallying? I mean is it all technology or just good metal going into the shell only to be crumpled against the roadside furniture?
Yep a good magazine feature I reckon...

I too love the old school stuff but i think your last sentence is an extremely bold statement!
its just that technology has improved over the decades, and no doubt it hasnt stopped yet. Who knows what the future will bring. You can definately not replicate the sound of a BDA screaming through the forest tho!!!

lol , but it's true . The "max power" wheels ruin them . Should be a law against it .
