I've got a 2003 Specialized Enduro Expert, almost the same as this one on ebay

They are great bikes, light and can handle XC & DH with ease and all the mountain bike mags in 2002-04 gave it 10 out of 10 and it was the bike to have.

          This is mine

and this was in St Andrews Oct just gone, very hard trails but the bike managed it more than me

Back it the day they were going for £1500 - £3000 depending on spec but now you can pick them up for £300ish.

You can lock the suspension front and rear to give a hard framed bike or hard tail or full suspension with the front been height adjustable and disk brakes F&R.
Even 7 years on they look up to date

i've got a 2008 carrera Fury. I was into MTBing for 6 years or so from age of 15-21ish, then last year thought i'd get back into it as i was getting a little tubby

Now i know Carrera is meant to be halfords own brand rubbish. but this particular bike got 9/10 and won best bike in class in MBR magazine. The frameset on the 2009 version is papp but if you find a 2008 in a store near you the frame is great and a good base to upgrade on if you start getting into biking again.

I got the bike down from 650 to 400 as well. Comes with Rock Shox U turn forks too which have adjustable travel from 80-130mm on the fly so you can limit the travel on the flats and then whack it up when you fancy hacking downhill a bit. Hydraulic discs (not the shit cable type) and a fairly decent drivetrain too. Great little bike for the money IMO and well worth a look

You dont have to spend thousands to get a decent set up

oh, and i got the 16" frameset as i come from a bmx background and luck to pop the seat right down for riding trails/dirt jumps

all sounds good, just a bit scary looking at the prices, £400 ish sounds ok, not ready to buy yet (car issues first) but i can't keep using a £80 halfords jobbie and expect to keep up with the others...

I'm now watching the bay for a few!!!

£400 should get you a fairly good second hand bike (trek, specialized), try to take someone who knows a little along with you cause some bike have had a good hammering (raced hard) and been cleaned up well to sell, don't bother with full suspension either you just don't need it, i do a bit of racing and take groups out on the mtb's with work and know exactly what £80 from halfords gets you, i'd rather walk
