  • good evening London, fasten your seatbelts.........

"we could be in for a bumpy ride"

morrisseys opening words at tuesdays Royal albert Hall concert.

went to london Early saturday morning to have a long weekend and a few Days in readiness for the 're scheduled' Morrissey concert, was not too happy when we got a few txts on sunday morning saying that he had collapsed the night before and was in a stable condition in hospital. Thought that was it, this was sunday, the Gig is on Tuesday, Breathing difficulties, no way would it happen .

done the usual 'touristy' things as was convinced he would be unwell, and then the bournemouth gig for monday evening was cancelled.

London Eye, a couple of shows, shopping in knightsbridge / chelsea, all helped pass away the time, went to the Albert Hall tuesday morning to be greeted by the sight of the tour Bus and the equipement lorrise being unloaded , inside, the ticket office confirmed the Gig was a goer

what else could be added, tuesday evening arrived , and the man himself gave a great performance, looked good, sounded great, and really entertained.

good quote from him on the Night "when i collapsed and came around in Swindon hospital, the doctors said not to smile" i replied " i Never do"

    pictures to follow

fcuk me though, there were some right weirdo's there on the night

Not as easy as it sounds though Graham....I gave up my daily packet of crisps and a Kit Kat and it still made no difference!

Well, it was in the albert Hall which is difficult to get an atmosphere going because it is mainly all seating, additionally, there were a lot of 'older' couples there (ourselves included) and they seemed quite muted / reserved (ourselves excluded !) - think Harry and Paul and the Notting hill shop sketch. The backing band were behind on some tracks, and possibly not in synch as they usually are. The lighting was overpowering, virtually all the mega powerfull stuff was aimed at the Audience, thus if you were 'allergic' to flash photography, this was not the place to be, truly blinding on occasions.
No Stage invaders (there are usually a few) and no one was ejected for attempting to get Closer (there are usually a dozen or so !!)

Morrissey however was, vocally, brilliant, and his unique sense of humour and barbed comments were on top form (loved his comment on "we see so many top chefs cooking on the TV, why is it none of them are Vegetarians" and then he launched into the song 'The world is full of Crashing bores')
The set was over in just 100 minutes though, with only the one encore.

The venue is second to none, truly awesome, fantastic fascilities (plenty of bars, reasonably priced, good food)

it was a good night, and even though i am hardcore Morrissey fan, would give it a 7 out of 10

                          Holland next
