Unfortunately they are probably allowed to do it by law, owing to some imposible to find small print somewhere in the t&c's. Best thing to do is tell them you think its out of order and you will make it your mission to inform as many people as possible of whats happened if they dont reconsider, and of course not renew your insurance.

As previous - Hagerty are top guys and Phil was the one who sorted me out (insert punchline....!) after AON put their prices up when they became part of another company. They are dead friendly and into the classics stuff too.
