£18 to put your car on the stand is a bit OTT when a members general pass is £12 and non-member is £17...so if the cars make the show why not charge those putting their car on the reggie display a flat £10 and club stands £12.

Always a difficult one when you are hiring such a large venue, the costs will be frightening and the RSOC need to ensure that they can cover the costs for the event.

Knockhill costs £13,000 + vat basic hire, then they take the first 1,000 people through the gate and then you only get 50% of the gate money. So in reality it costs £24,950 and then you only get 50% of the gate money

You also have to pay them a 25% deposit now to confirm your date and the balance in full 1 month before the event or they will pull the plug on you!

I would imagine Donnington is several times that for the hire.

I can believe it Grum, As members wanted to go back to Donnington this year the venue has to be paid for some how.

It's not ideal but it has to be run like a business and costed out properly to ensure that it at the very least breaks even.

If it rains and people don't go Donnington will still want there money!

I also find it frustrating that it is just open to Mexico's and RS's(Correct me if i'm mistaken)

Its taken us a while to save the funds to buy an escort(1300 Sport) and quite frankly we couldnt afford the cost of a nice Mex of RS. There are loads of nice cars out there that attend the Lakes and Stanford etc that arent necessarily Mex's and RS's that people like to see on display.

Gates open to all Classic Fords....£6-£10 per car to get in, dont think thats unreasonable.

The clue is in the title of the club........"RS Owners Club"

The reason National Day is at Donington is because the members requested it.
The costs are HUGE for this day and the RSOC is not as well off as it used to be.........
There is the hire costs of Donington and the track, Public Liability Insurance, Security etc etc I could go on and on........... Basically, The sale of advance tickets almost covers the cost of the day. Any profit which is made is usually from Joe Public coming through the gate, So, If it Rains all day, there are less public so less money coming in which could add up to disaster for the club.

The use of Donington for our venue as said is chosen by the members for various reasons. IE:- Location (Central) Track etc. A Lot of RSOC Members like to use the track at National Day, Also, A lot of members like the static displays so, it is a mixture of both to hopefully, please everybody.

Maybe, this will be the last National Day we will be able to run at Donington due to spiralling costs and dwindling members. You never know, The Club may revert to going back to the likes of Stanford Hall in years to come but, that wouldn't please the members that want to use a track.

There are other options open to the club IE:- Cadwell Park, Bruntingthorpe etc but these places are not ideal due to various reasons.

National Day is a nightmare to put on for the club both physically and financially With Committee and Registrars and volunteers being there for both Saturday and Sunday in order to get everything marked out and set up so, please remember this before you start criticizing without thinking it through first.

"If" more of you decided to join the club then we would be in a better position to cater for the member and maybe go back to the free pass days when the club was strong but, untill then, we unfortunately need every penny we can get to hold these events.

The registrars displays are being held as Oggie says on hard standing in the Paddock area which is a prime spot. Also, there is a tee shirt for all those displaying (Which again, has to be paid for)

So, Please show your support for the club cause without you, there may not be a National Day next year or the year after............ Then, there WILL be plenty of moaning....LOL

In the past the RSOC had a large membership and could justify, and afford, the costs of Donington and the services it provided, its time they realised that they are not the size they were with the turnover they had and organised its National event to suit.

When it is said that the membership all wanted to go back to Donington I think it should be pointed out that members also suggested Oulton Park, Mallory , Cadwell, Croft etc . They all have track and hard standing, maybe they are not quite central but they are cheaper than Donington. However the general reponse was that they are not big enough for the RSOC, bollox, if they can hold National motorsport events they can accomodate a car club. Those at the top need to start thinking at club level again, yes they have made a good effort at saving and cutting costs recently and I commend them on that, but don't waste the good work by putting your neck in the noose again organising another ' make or break day'.

I know talking to other respected people off this BB the Ford shows are struggling in general, some of it has to come down to costs and the financial climate, but things also run their natural course and go through low periods of attendance only to bounce back again. I know a few guys are interested in having a go at the more generic classic car shows next year to see different things and different places, I think the 'Works Team' should be at these.

My membership of the RSOC lapsed recently, if I had a car I would deffo go on the reggies display to support Steve, Dave and Robbo , £18 isn't a lot of money after all compared to the price of some of the parts for Escorts but as I say the bigger picture of ND needs looking at.

if the club are indeed struggling, is it not worth thinking of downsizing the venue?? just how many go on track and how much funds are generated as a result ( or how much could be saved by not having the track ) is track action a loss leader? are gate fee's subsidising the track action? the cosier shows have a nice feel too them, and i dont think the RSOC will suffer by choosing a smaller location in the future. as for it being central - who for? i live miles away, i say goodwood next year
