  • registrara's display RSOC National day 2009

Last call for the RSOC display the entries have to be in for 28th August.
Up to now we have 11 cars on the list, that’s Mexico’s and rs 2000 I may add.
After the MK2 mex display at the Lakes tour this is not good come on chaps lets see abit more interest, I know its £18.00 but for that you get your entry’s ticket, a polo shirt, and a commemorative plaque for displaying your car. So all things considered if you are going to national day this year and you have to pay on the gate it will cost you £17.00 or £12.00 for an advanced ticket. So showing your car on the display at a cost £18.00 with all the benefits you receive seams cheap to me.
We were hoping for a good turn out of cars this year, well more than 11 anyway if there is something bothering you all about this display please let’s have some feed back and we will endeavour to sort it out.

        Not an RSOC member & Don't have a Mk2 Mex or RS2
So I'm not affected by the above problem.

But for me the incentive would be to give those diplaying their car a free pass.
I think to pay more to display your car than to turn up without it is doing the owners no favours.
Were the RSOC charging members to display in the days when there were 10 plus RS1800's lined up.??

It's the cars that make the show at the end of the day.
I know as a model registrar, it is hard to get owners to make the effort to bring their cars out without charging them for the pleasure.

Just my opinion & we all know what happens when people leave their car in the car park at Donnington.

Unfortunately we can't give away free passes to display cars as this is where the RSOC Generates it's revenue to cover the costs of Donington etc.
If we were to give away free tickets to all who show then come the rain on the day and no punters through the gate, The club would go bust overnight.

Kev, I know what you're saying. Is it the fact Donnington is that expensive to hire..?
If so what are the benefits of using Donnigton other than the track, say compared to a Country House type venue.

What is the Old School Escort owner getting for his membership fee if the clubs "event of the year" is pay to display.
As an event for the members I just feel the club should be looking after it's members rather than charging them more to display their car, than the general public have to pay to come in.

Let me put it another way. If any Tom Dick or Harry can buy an advanced ticket for £10 sureley the member with a car there should pay no more than £10 & the incentive to display your car should be you get the polo shirt & plaque for making the effort to support the club & their event..???

individual marque displays werent around back then, i approached Graham John and asked if i could have a RS1800 display....since then its been a yearly event, sort of.

im sure the the display owners were given free passes etc

Used to be free entry with the Capri club years ago, if you had a show car on display!.

Well said Mark. I can't see how you can lose this arguement. Someone previously made reference of a cheap 'snot' coloured T shirt which does not give much incentive The AVO National Day is £6.00 with no T Shirt.....and nobody minds paying that !

I was also thinking along the same lines as whether Donington is absolutley necessary ? I frequent lots of shows, and as a venue, although Donington is convenient as in 'Central', it is not top of the list for me.

Having been to Chatsworth and Cholmondeley castle and the like, I find the settings far nicer. However I do understand there is a following for track action.

I sympathise with the RSOC as to be fair, they are trying out new ideas....even changing venue to Rockingham which didn't seem to work. They do seem to be listening and maybe after this years event they may listen harder to the comments made that £ 18 on top of annual membership as well as extra to join your local group seems extortionate.
