Anyone had trouble registering a car from Ireland?

I bought my MK1 Mex from N.I. all good and well until it came time to change over the logbook. Sent it off to change the details and got a letter back saying as it`s been "imported" from N.I. it needs a full VOSA inspection before a V5 will be issued.
The DVLA say it`s to help stamp out ringing etc.
So the guy from DVLA took six weeks to come out to inspect the car, I have to say he was extremely helpful and interested in the car and even though he could`nt find the engine number (has one but he did`nt know where to look), and as it has new strut tops did`nt have a chassis number stamped there. None of this affected his descision to issue a V5 (or at least pass the car).
After the inspection it`s just like applying for a new logbook, it turned up 2-3 weeks later. He even left me his mobile number and said to call him if the logbook did`nt turn up or there was any other problems.
I needed to tax the car before the logbook turned up, he said to call into the leeds office with a cheque and he personally did me a tax disc.
All in all, not a bad experience (seemed to drag on at the time), but at least after - if all goes well !!- you know the car has the all clear with a bill of health from VOSA.
It still kept the same reg number, as it was a mainland car before and had a english plate.
best of luck.
Tony
