  • MK1 RS2000 going rate?

    Hi guys,

I'm currently looking at gettin a MK1. What would be the going rate for an RS2000 in fairly standard order, condition not brilliant perhaps in need of some welding. Ideally I want an original but trying to work out if I can afford it or may have to get an alternate model (1100 or similar) thats had the RS upgrades carried out. (or maybe do it myself). I would like the resale to be as high as possible though.

RS2000s: Rough ones I've seen lately asking £8k but would take £6.5k - that one is still available I guess (we left it without looking too hard it was that shagged). Top cars now going for well over £20k (heard of one at £25k only yesterday)

There was a 1300E with all RS engine & running gear on ebay a couple of months ago, it looked really nice and it went for sub £5k.

Says it all really but if you just want a nice car to enjoy, £5k will buy you a good one but don't expect any more for it when you come to sell!

Whats the best way to check if the car is an original RS2000 and not just a modified 'other' model? checking for a type 49 shell etc.. I'm assuming

Nice rs2000 mk1's sell for £12,000 , Mot'd but tatty ones £7,000 , basket cases which need new shells etc under £3500 . They get advertised for alot more normally but nobody buys them unless retarded or desperate !!!!!!!
Mint modded 1100L's etc with pinto conversions sell for the same money as genune Rs2000's around here as their bodyshells are in better condition 9x's out of 10 (old ladies took more care and crashed less than boy racers did in the 70's)

The simple answer is you can't . All AVO Escort shells were just modded 1100L shells with a few extra tin plates welded on by a fat bloke in essex !!!!!

lol , when AVO spent all of 15 minutes uprating their 1100L shells to type 49 ones some of them had an old sandwich inside the rear quarter panel !!!!!!

Nope, wrong again, they didn't spend any time modding shells at AVO to make them type 49... They coluld have been hiding their snap in the rear 1/4 panels though!

You need to join the club and then you will know

Here's a bit of a clue for you to be going on with, an actual picture from the AVO plant circa 1972:

Well, if you disregard brakes, wheels, suspension, gearbox and axle that's about right... What else did you expect them to do?
