  • MKII Mexico Help & Advice

    Hi all

I've been looking for a MKII Mexico for a while, phoned for a few recently but haven't been able to view them as deposits had been taken or cars have been sold/collected by the time i'd rang.

Looks like i'm finally going to be able to view one this coming Monday.
It's at a workshop a friend of mine used to work at.
He saw the car a few weeks ago which he said has had loads of body repairs, new panels, loads of welding etc...
Just needed painting the last time he saw it.

I found out yesterday it was for sale, so got my mate to ring being as he worked there.
Apparently it is now painted, just needs a front windscreen + engine, gearbox & interior re-fitting.

Unfortunatley the owner has taken a deposit on it but has informed us he doesn't think the deposit leaver has the full funds for it.
He has given the guy until this coming Monday to cough up the rest of the money.
Owner is quite confident it won't go & has told me to call him Monday to arrange a viewing.

The last time i owned a MKII Was a 1600 Sport 15 Years ago.
    Been driving S2Turbos since then.

This is why i need your help & advice.

What sort of things should i look out for when i (Hopefully) View it ?

I am told if it is a true RS It will have RS Strengthening points.
Can anyone tell me where these are ?

I am also told to make sure it has Mexico wings.
Do you know how i would tell, how are they different from a normal MKII ?

Also need to know how i can tell it's a Mexico shell apart from looking at the usual chassis/VIN Plates & V5

    Many thanks in anticipation....................

Agree with Mark, take someone with you who knows MK2's if possible

Rule 1 : Don't part with your money unless you are happy that what you are buying is correct or you may live to regret it

      Rule 2 : Read Rule 1
      Cheers

Haven't got anyone i can take who know about RS'S Or Escorts really.

None of my mates are really into their cars anymore.

They had to stop all that when they got married & had kids !

A few people i work with are into their cars/bikes but more stuff like Audi's, Focuses etc...

A freind of a friend of a freind sprints a MK1 Mexico that was in a Retro Ford issue last year but he's not around at the moment.

Won't even know the Reg. No. Until i view it on Monday.
It's a bit political, the guy who has left the deposit on the car works at the place workshop/bodyshop where the car is !

It's in West Midlands, not far from Birmingham Airport.

as said above dont rush in,take somebody with you who knows what to look for.also take a torch and look every where, twice or more, these things rust everywhere.ps if it aint complete remember all the little things needed soon add up ,and can be a pain to locate,as i found out.dont mean to be a kill joy but .best of luck in your search mate.
we,re here for a good time-not for a long time!

silver vin tag on slam panel

I wouldnt be too worried if the car adds up in other areas and doesnt have the number on the strut top, a lot of these were lost due to repairs/new inner wings

                      Gutted..............

                      Car sold.

I've been told the person buying it may sell it onto me as long as he gets a drink out of it.

Been told i've got to wait a few days for a phone call.

Not holding my breath, i've been waiting since last Thursday to view this car.
Was meant to view it today but the guy who left the deposit is now coming up with the rest of the dosh for it.

Getting very disheartened now in my search for a MKII

Cheers & many thanks to everyone who replied to this thread though & bear me in mind if anyone knows/hears of a MKII Mexico or 13/16 Sports that comes available...................

                      Cheers
