  • Rallye Sport Escorts - Possible RAC Motorsport Affiliation

Your Thoughts on the Following Please

A proposal put forward by Graham John

Gents, (and of course any ladies present)

with the huge resurgance in Historic rallying, and the ever increasing number of competitive Ford Escorts appearing on racing, rallying and Hillclimbs(not to mention the 'unofficial' fan base on here of Mexit, Seamus, Will, Julian Reynolds etc etc)what are peoples views on www.rallysportescorts.co.uk becoming an RAC recognised club and also to have RAC affiliation ?

    what does it mean ?

Basically anyone who subscribes to Rallysportescorts.co.uk (i will call it RSE for short - save typing )could enter motorsport competitions, races, rallies, sprints, hillclimbs under the RSE banner / Club name as opposed to having to join an organising motorclub which they may never visit or get involved with after subscribing.
If affiliated, we could also enter as team events, and take part /register in other recognised motor clubs activities, and the great bit is that the RSE would have access to all the information required / specification to build competition cars, including changes in regulations.

As we are a nationally spread (worldwide, if you think about it) group of Escort enthusiasts we could also attend local events and help / support members off here who are maybe not local to the area (as an example, when Mexit does Epynt in a couple of months time, there will be a few Dozen of us up there individually, wouldnt it be great to meet up and support him collectively, and other competitiors who were entered under the banner of Rallyesportescorts.co.uk)

we could expand that further with team clothing / branding (i will leave that one to Taffr ) and thus have a real team following and belonging, it's not all about concours you know.

i am happy to explain further, just gauging the feeling on the BB at the moment, costs would be zero or very (VERY) little to progress.

    C'mon, lets have your views...............

This sounds a great idea however being ever the pesimist you need to consider the following.

1/ There would have to be a formal committe I assume ,with relevant positions Chairman,Secretary etc. etc.

      2/Club base or official address

3/ I know you say cost is minimal however there are always costs with everything, who pays for it everyone or just those who use it ?

Please don't think I am being negative I am not trying to derail what is a great idea ,I am purley basing these comments on what I have read on various threads over the years on here and other BB's .Remember the RSOC debarcle with the Registrar ,you are reliant on people fullfilling the roles in an unpaid capacity and giving up their time, bear in mind all the political mind games and sniping the always occurs ,how many times have we seen on here posts accusing people of abusing positions and playing the "in crowd " card etc.(not neccessarily on this BB but RSOC ,AVO,etc)
You see it all the time in any sort of club ,not just Motorsport ,the people who are doing the job and filling the positions that no one else wants to do , targeted by those who have no intention of applying or doing the job themselves but get pleasure out of being critical of those who do if the officials opinions do not match theirs .
I hope someone will take up the required roles and I personally have no problem with any payment donation if it is required to use the clubs services.

You asked for comments and that is mine in summary "Great Proposal " in practice if you are on a committe you always end up getting Sh1t off someone.

PS I know the spellings crap before the "word police" start

Dave you have hinted on this quite a while back and I offered the help then. But as Mark has said above, you will need monthly committee meetings, put people in directorship of the club, ie chairman, secretary, treasurer etc.

You will need to write a rules and regulations for said club (I have those if needed)

As for costs, there is a cost as you would not be able to enter events directly under the RSE banner unless the the club paid for membership of regional associations (approx £35 per region) That could be the difficult one, due to the widespread geography of the members on here which regions do you opt to join? Foreign members would not automatically be able to enter events in this country being a member of RSE as each individual event would need clearance from the MSA in the form of "Application for National Events with Authorised Foreign Participation (NEAFP)"

If you need any more info Dave give me a call, been there done that, sat on committes and set clubs up from scratch, so will give you as much help as you need if you decide to go down this route.
